The Rose That Grew from Concrete

written by Tupac Shakur

Did you hear about the rose that grew

from a crack in the concrete?

Proving nature's law is wrong it

learned to walk without having guidance.

Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,

it learned to breathe fresh air.

Long live the rose that grew from concrete

when no one else ever cared.

To me, this poem written by Tupac represents the perseverance and determination that one could hold despite any adversity or difficulties that they may encounter within their life. Just like so many around the world right now, I too have had my share difficulties, and this poem always reminds me that with persistence we all have the will to grow beyond any circumstance. The concrete represents an environment where a rose would be less likely to grow or flourish. Yet somehow despite all of this, the rose finds a way to shine through while becoming a beacon of inspiration for others. Regardless of your past, where you are from, your class, your dress size (or pant size), your downfalls or your imperfections we are all capable of growth through those very things that were meant to deter us from our better selves.

The Black Heat Movie Premiere

First and foremost, California is absolutely gorgeous. When I first arrived in Cali it was really late at night so I couldn't truly see the mountainous plains of the city until the very next day. The following day while I was on my way to the premiere, I was able to view just a portion of Los Angeles, California and all of its beauty. I didn't get to spend too much time in LA but I am looking forward to visiting again sometime in the distant future.

When Ana first told me that the Premiere would be help in LA, a multitude of emotions just came over me. My mother was recently diagnosed with Colon cancer, and I just didn't know if or how I would be able to pull myself together for the trip to LA but I knew she would have wanted me to be there. As soon as I arrived at the Premiere, I was instantly encouraged and realized why I was there in the first place- I really love what I do and everyone I met there was just as passionate about what they did as well. Whether they were behind the camera, on camera or just part of the creative process- there was nothing but positivity, dedication and passion shining throughout the venue. I say this a lot, but I truly believe that as Creatives one of our gifts is inspiring one another. The entire Black Heat group did that for me during such a difficult time. I truly appreciate @iamwesmiller @svperdvperfly reaching out to me to design for @nlechoppamusic for the film. It was a pleasure meeting the entire Black Heat crew and cast. I was finally able to make it out to Los Angeles because of this project and I am beyond grateful.
